Reflections

Congratulations to three Shorecrest students awarded as Finalists for their Photography entry in the Shoreline Council level of the PTSA Reflections Program. Out of our 15 Finalists represented at the all-District Reflections Reception on January 16, 2008, we’re pleased to announce that Kaitlyn May, Richard (Chris) Rice, and Rebecca Webb are Shorecrest Finalists for their outstanding photography entries now in the Washington State level of the National PTA’s Reflections Program.

Next year we hope to have Finalists in all six categories, and the theme for 2008-2009 is “WOW!” so we expect many very creative entries. Start now to think of ways you might be able to express this extremely open-ended theme in your own unique way, and work on it this summer, and you’ll be ready for the deadline, which is always in November. Take the challenge and give yourself time to create and express your thoughts and feelings through art, it will be a worthwhile experience. Check out the Reflections website for the latest information on next year’s program, find out the results of the State contest and view the gallery of Finalist entries from last year’s program at: http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/Reflections/reflect.htm, the official Reflections website.

Thanks to the many bakers and assistants who made this year’s Reflections Program at Shorecrest and Council level Receptions a great success, to our judges, Marianne Mersereau, Jo Cripps, Peter Hughes, Jim Musar and Mike Siegel, and the two teachers of Photography who encouraged students to submit entries, Trent Mitchell and Brian Story. There were many others who lended a helping hand and we thank you also for the time and talents you contributed to Reflections.

Teacher Wish List Program

Your Shorecrest PTSA is helping our teachers’ wishes come true. We want to provide them with the tools or equipment they need to continue doing an outstanding job for our students. Through email and this site, PTSA is the link between our teachers and parents who want to help. Think of this as our very own version of craigslist or e-bay.

Teacher Wish List: Final 2008 school year edition

Please contact that teacher and also copy () so she can update the list. Be sure to check back as we update the list throughout the school year.

Wish list:

From , directed studies behavior tech: We could really use big old headphones people used to use for stereos. They are great for blocking out noise for some of our students. They could be working or broken.

From , ELL teacher: some turn-style, tall bookcases-preferably ones that rotate – don’t know if they exist anymore. They make for a more inviting presentation and are easier-to-access than the standing, wooden ones.

From , science teacher: Small portable speakers – to plug into student ipods or computers – and a short (6 or 8 feet) extension cord.

From , career specialist: college resource materials – Sat/ACT study books, college guides, career resources, info on specific colleges, etc.

From , Japanese Teacher: Two used or new Nakama Two (Japanese College textbooks) by Yukiko Hatasa, Kazumi Hatasa, Seiichi Makino, published by Houghton Mifflin Company — for two students who will be taking 5th year Japanese next year.

From Nurse, Nancy Dalan, LPN (206 361 4308). She has been able to obtain a new thermometer through efforts of , our PTSA Family Advocate. In addition, Claire has learned Nancy would like some teaching supplies. For more information contact:
